Zenith Labour Party sweeps Abia Council poll

In what many Nigerians have described as usual in a county where it’s a norm for the ruling party in a state to win almost all elective positions in local council poll,
the ruling Labour Party, LP in Abia State lost in all the 17 local government areas in the state in the November 2 local government election.

Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, won 15 out of 17 Local Government areas while the Young Progressives Party YPP won the remaining two, Ugwunagbo and Osisioma Ngwa LGAs

The Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, Prof. Chima George, who announced the results on Saturday night at the ABSIEC headquarters in Umuahia, said the commission has delivered on it mandate.

“We have fulfilled the duty we were inaugurated on September 5 to carry out. It wasn’t an easy task, but we made extra efforts to raise awareness about the election across the state,” Prof. George stated.

Although the election was relatively peaceful, it was marked by voter apathy.

Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the poll, tongues are still waggling whether Abia state governor, Alex Otti adopted the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, for the election, same way the governor of Rivers state, Sim Fubara allegedly did with the Action Peoples Party, APP, in the state when his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP , boycotted the October 5 local government poll.
