Post Local Government Election Violence Rocks Rivers State

It is a mixed grill in Rivers state on Monday October 7, 2024 as hell is let loose as armed hoodlums attack some local council secretariats, a day after the newly elected executives were sworn in by the state governor, Sim Fubara and barely hours after the police unsealed the secretariats.

While some councils and the elected chairmen were busy inaugurating the councillors, some others were being attacked and set ablaze by hoodlums suspended to be members of the opposition political parties that boycotted the October five local government poll.

Ikwerre Local Government Council which witnessed early hours violence has been set on Fire as post election violence sent shocking waves across the state, with many resident remaining indoor over fear of the unknown.

Same Violence was recorded in parts of the Eleme Local Government Area (LGA) Secretariat was set ablaze by yet to be identified youths. the devastating fire ravaged the Eleme Local Government secretariat, sending shockwaves through the community.

The incident according to Eleme stakeholders has sparked widespread concern, with many calling for calm and an investigation into the cause of the blaze.

Emuoha was at early hours allegedly under Lock and key by Former LGA Chairman the tension started in on Sunday as unidentified youths launched a shocking attack on the council premises. an eyewitness claims some youths Last night, allegedly planted dynamites, which were detonated this morning just as the new council chairman arrived at work.

The council chairman stated that concerned farmers had alerted authorities after witnessing the youths entering the premises through the back fence. He expressed frustration with the local police, who he said failed to respond despite the warning received yesterday.

In Abua Odua LGA informed us that The PDP-Wike faction chanted and where seen protesting to there office which shares boundary with the Council Secretariat. However the new LGA Chairman of Abua/Odual  has moved in to swear his new councillors*Buguma Goes Agog As Council Boss Swears in Vice, Councillors.

Meanwhile, the he chairman of Asaritoru LGA, Engr Sule Amachree, PhD has sworn in the vice chairman, Mrs Tekena Wokoma and the 13 councillors of the LGA.

Speaking at the event, Engr Amachree charged them to see their elections into power as a call to duty.
He further advised them to live up to expectation without betraying the trust the people have placed on them.
The event was graced by political stakeholders across the LGA, civil servants, residents and indigenes of the area.
