The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has expressed its condolences alongside world leaders and the global community following the death of Pope Francis, who passed away on Easter Monday at the age of 88.
In a condolence message, Dr. Temitope Ilori, the Director General of the agency, conveyed deep sympathy to the Vatican, the Community of Sant’Egidio, the Catholic Caritas Foundation in Nigeria (CCFN), and the global Catholic Church for the immense loss.
Ilori, who lauded the late pontiff’s legacy of compassion and humility, expressed hope that his leadership qualities would continue to inspire people around the world.
“Pope Francis was not just a spiritual leader, but a dedicated advocate for the vulnerable, offering unwavering support to the global effort against HIV/AIDS. He continually highlighted the significance of love, mercy, equity, faith, and humanity in the realm of public health,” Ilori remarked.
“His legacy will remain a source of inspiration as we strive toward a world where no one is left behind,” Ilori added.

Pope Francis, the 266th Pope, made history as the first Latin American pontiff in the Roman Catholic Church.
Reports indicate that he passed away from a stroke and heart failure after battling pneumonia, which had led to a five-week hospitalization at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital.
