The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.) has announced the suspension of all political appointees and office holders in the state.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday night and signed by his Chief of Staff, the suspensions are with immediate effect.
Ibas, in the statement said the decision was made under the powers granted to him as the Sole Administrator of the state by President Bola Tinubu.
Those affected by the suspension are; the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, all commissioners, chairmen/chairpersons and members of boards, agencies, commissions, and parastatals, as well as all special advisers, special assistants, and senior special assistants in the state.Ibas however, directed all affected officers are to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their MDAs, and or to the most senior director/head of administration where there may be no permanent secretary.

The Sole Administrator, had also directed all Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGA) across the 23 local government local government to submit the report of their Councils to the office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government Affairs.
In a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Itong Awani, the sole administrator, directed that the reports must contain the functions of the council, the number of Staff on nominal roll, including their cadre by cadre, sources of revenue generation in the Local Government Area, activities of the Council/on-going and completed projects for the past 2 years, among other things.
President Bola Tinubu, on March 18, 2025 appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.) as Sole Administrator of Rivers state after the declaration of a state of emergency in the State, suspended the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
