Operatives of Rivers state police on Monday tear gassed members of the Take-It-Back protesters in a bid to disperse them.
The Take It Back Movement, Civil Society Organizations, and Niger Delta Congress as well as other supporters had gathered at Isaac Boro Park in Port Harcourt, only to be confronted by operatives of the Rivers State Police Command.
The policemen, had asked the organizers and their supporters to leave for another venue.
In deviance to the order, the protesters began singing solidarity songs and started marching inside the park and in procession moved outside towards the main Aba Express Road.
Getting to CFC junction, the protesters were intercepted by armed anti-riot policemen, who once again ordered them to vacate the street, an order that was also again defied by the protesters.
The police then responded Immediately by firing tear gas canisters, to disperse the group which sent the various protesters scattering for safety.
