Five soldiers have reported killed with 10 wounded and four others missing in the aftermath of a Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists ambush of troops conducting stabilization operations in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State,
The Defence Headquarters had confirmed that ambush led to a heavy gunfight and over 30 terrorists were neutralized, with several others escaping with bullet wounds.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, disclosed the details in a statement, stating the recovery of weapons and the destruction of terrorist equipment.
Buba, said “The attack resulted in the destruction of one gun truck, three TCVs, and an excavator,” adding that a reinforcement team, supported by air components, was deployed in pursuit of the fleeing attackers.

It was revealed by a source, that the terrorists had launched multiple assaults as they attempted to overrun a special military force stationed in Kareto, a community in Gubio local government area.
According to the source, “The first attack was on August 16 at 6:00 a.m., where 18 soldiers were killed, and several others injured, while six insurgents were neutralized,”
“In another attack on Tuesday November 19, five soldiers were killed, but over 30 terrorists were eliminated in subsequent engagements, with no further casualties reported on our side.”
The source further explained that the special forces which recently arrived in Kareto was in preparation to facilitate the return of displaced villagers by constructing trenches when the insurgents ambushed and launched their assault on them.
The Defence Headquarters is monitoring the situation and has reinforced efforts to combat insurgency in the region.
