Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun has commended President Bola Tinubu for supporting the rule of law in the conduct of the local government election in the state.

Adeleke, who made the remarks while speaking with newsmen in his hometown, Ede, on Saturday, also denied making any negative comments against the President.

“I did not at any point utter any negative remarks about Mr President.

“All the news articles suggesting that I made negative remarks against the president is fake.

“I urge the public and stakeholders to ignore the fake news, as I did not attack President Tinubu in any way before and during ongoing local government election,” he said.

The governor, who described the election process as seamless, commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for a job well done.

Also, Mr Teslim Igbalaye, the secretary to the state government, commended the electorate for coming out en masse to cast their votes.

Igbalaye, who spoke to newsmen in Osogbo, also commended OSSIEC for conducting a peaceful election.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, had alleged that officers of the Nigeria Police Force arrested commission staff on election duty across the state.

In a statement he released via the commission’s official X page on Saturday, Abioye commended voters for turning out to exercise their rights despite the challenges.

He also apologized to the media for the commission’s inability to provide accreditation materials, blamed the inability on the police who sealed off OSSIEC headquarters where the materials were stored.

Abioye explained that delays in some polling units were caused by the police arresting officials responsible for delivering election materials. However, he assured that new materials had been dispatched, allowing voting to continue.

“Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested staff of the commission who are on election duty across the state,” Abioye stated.
