On Monday, Vice-President Kashim Shettima arrived in Asaba, Delta, to officially welcome Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other leaders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Shettima was greeted at the Asaba International Airport by the governors of Nasarawa, Imo, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kogi, Gombe, Lagos, Benue, Yobe, and other states controlled by the APC. Also present to welcome the Vice-President were Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC; Mr. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives; Alhaji Abubakar Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning; Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, and several other notable figures. According to NAN, Governor Oborevwori of Delta officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on Wednesday, April 23.

In Asaba, Senator James Manager announced the defection, addressing the press after a meeting with PDP stakeholders at the Government House. He stated that a formal declaration would be made on Monday. Manager emphasized that the governor’s decision to join the ruling party was driven by the best interests and overall development of Delta.
