Following their victorious outing at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rewarded Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with cash gifts, new homes, and national honours.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu, announced that each player on the winning team will receive cash reward of $100,000, a new apartment, and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
The reception in honour of the victorious team was held on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
D’Tigress on Sunday secured a record fifth consecutive AfroBasket title, defeating Mali 78–64 in the final in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The win also marked Nigeria’s seventh AfroBasket title overall and extended their unbeaten run in the tournament to 29 consecutive games since 2015.

Commending team at the reception, Shettima, said: “Beyond being ambassadors of this great nation and symbols of excellence, you have once again reminded us of the promise of sports in a nation this diverse.”
“This victory is what happens when we walk together.” “You have conquered Africa 78 to 64. It’s a declaration, not only of your tactical security but of your reading of the game and your wariness. And I assure you, you go forth with the blessings and support of the entire nation.”
He praised the team for their resilience and fighting spirit in the face of challenges during the tournament.
President Tinubu, last week gave similar national honours and gifts to the Super Falcons for winning a 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco.
