The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has introduced two pivotal bills aimed at enhancing public safety and promoting youth entrepreneurship across the state.
One of the bills, titled the “Osun State Safety Commission Bill 2024,” proposes the establishment of a specialized safety commission. The commission would be charged with preventing public safety incidents, including stampedes, and ensuring that safety protocols are strictly adhered to at public events and gatherings. This initiative responds to growing concerns about crowd control and emergency preparedness in the state and beyond.
In a parallel move to stimulate economic growth, especially among young people, Speaker Egbedun also presented the “Osun State Start-Up Act.” This executive bill is designed to localize Nigeria’s national Start-Up Act within Osun State, creating a supportive legal and policy framework for new businesses. The legislation aims to foster innovation, facilitate access to funding, and create an enabling environment for local entrepreneurs to thrive both within and beyond Nigeria.
Both bills are currently undergoing review by the State Assembly. If passed, they are expected to significantly improve public safety infrastructure and encourage the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly those led by young entrepreneurs.
The Speaker has highlighted these legislative efforts as key components of the Assembly’s broader agenda to build a safer and more economically vibrant Osun State. He emphasized that fostering entrepreneurship and improving public safety are essential to the long-term development of the state.
