The Lagos State House of Assembly has sworn in Mojisola Meranda, representing the Apapa 1 state constituency in the assembly as its first female Speaker.
Taking her oath of office, Meranda said, “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly; that I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Meranda took her oath of office after the impeachment of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, on Monday during a plenary session.
Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly had earlier impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of abuse of office and gross misconduct.
Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, also removed the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko

Onafeko was said to have been singlehandedly brought to the assembly by Obasa. Both were behind the ban on journalists covering the activities of the assembly.
Obasa, was impeached in a gestapo manner by assembly members and his erstwhile deputy, Mojisola Meranda-Lasbat, was made substantive Speaker.
To prevent a break down of law and order, armed personnel of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS; Lagos Task Force, and the Police had took over the premises and environs while motorists and persons were turned back from gaining access.
Some miscreants, who had tried to invade the complex, were intercepted and arrested by the security personnel and clamped into waiting Black Maria.
Charms and amulets were also recovered from the miscreants believed to be supporters of Obasa from Agege.
