FG to harmonise national blood database

Initiating steps towards establishing a unified national blood database, the Federal Government aims to enhance the efficiency and efficacy of blood banking services in Nigeria, ensuring a safer and more dependable blood supply for patients.

This information was revealed in a press release by the National Blood Service Commission on Thursday. The statement highlighted that the initiative was announced by Prof Saleh Yuguda, the Director General of the commission, during a collaborative session with a team from the African Medical Centre for Excellence in Abuja.

The ACME’s team, led by Brian Deaver, is seeking to collaborate with the commission to identify areas for beneficial partnership.

Meanwhile, Yuguda emphasised the need for research programs that targeted blood service and hematology and pledged a robust commitment to the AMCE.

“This development is a significant step forward for Nigeria’s healthcare system and highlights the government’s commitment to improving the quality of care for its citizens.

“The collaboration between the NBSC and the AMCE is expected to yield fruitful results, driving progress in the fields of blood service and haematology,” the statement added.
