The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed it will begin paying the outstanding wage award arrears owed to federal workers, covering a period of five months.
In a statement released by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, it was announced that the payments—amounting to ₦35,000 per month—will be made in installments starting after the disbursement of April 2025 salaries.

This decision comes in response to persistent concerns from labor unions over the delay in fulfilling the wage award commitment, which was introduced to cushion the economic impact of the fuel subsidy removal. Although some partial payments had been made earlier, the arrears remained largely unpaid.
The government’s decision to resume payments is seen as a move to ease the financial burden on public sector workers and to uphold agreements previously reached with labor unions. The initiative is also part of broader efforts to maintain industrial peace. Federal employees have been encouraged to monitor their salary accounts for the incoming payments.
