The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, in connection with an alleged N700 billion fraud.
The former governor reportedly arrived at the main office of the EFCC in Abuja on Tuesday afternoon, in response to an invitation from the anti-corruption agency.
The arrest is reportedly linked to a petition filed by the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking, which alleged that Emmanuel had misappropriated state funds and could not account for N700 billion during his tenure as governor.
The petitioner also alleged that Udom received N3 trillion from the federation Account in eight years but left a debt profile of N500 billion and unpaid ongoing projects worth N300 billion in Akwa Ibom state.
Udom Emmanuel, served as governor of Akwa-Ibom state from 2015 to 2023 under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
