Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has restrained the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, from conducting its Congresses in the State scheduled for Saturday.
Before the current restraint, Justice Sobere Biambo had on the 16th of July restrained the PDP from holding its Congresses in the state in a suit filed by 11 members of the party.
However, on Friday July 26, Justice Charles Wali gave the Interim Order following a suit filed by Ilaye Sunday Kitoye, a PDP ward leader and 20 others against the Party, it national Chairman and others.

Wali in the order restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum; and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and others or their agents from gathering anywhere in Rivers State to hold Ward, Local Government Area, and State congresses of the PDP pending the hearing and determination of the suit before him, and filed by bona-fide party members from across the wards in the 23 local government areas of the State.
Wali also ordered the IGP; Commissioner of Police, Rivers State; Director-General, Department Security Service (DSS); and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); to ensure the order is adhered to and adjourned the hearing till 1st of August, 2024.
